Australian Resources Delegation explores opportunities in Eastern India

A 16 member Australian Resources delegation is currently in Kolkata as a part of Australia-India Business Exchange 2020 (AIB-X). The delegation is exploring collaboration opportunities with the Indian mining industry in Eastern India.

Panel Discussion on India’s Mining Industry

Coinciding with the visit of the Australian Resources delegation, a panel discussion titled “India’s mining industry – Targets, Reforms and Roadmaps” was organised in Kolkata today by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), Australian Government.

The panel included business leaders from Indian industry associations, steel majors and other infrastructure experts, discussed the current scenario of the mining industry, national production targets, reforms and the roadmap to development in the sector.

It also addressed recent policy changes and implications in India, international mining, equipment, technology and services (METS) expertise requirements, and the roadmap ahead.

Key participants in the Panel Discussion included, Mr VK Arora, Past President, Confederation of Indian Industry (Mining & Construction equipment Division) and Chief mentor, Karam Chand Thapar & Bros, (Coal Sales) Limited; Mr R P Ritolia, Adviser, Swyambhu Natural Resources Limited (SREI Group); Mr Harsh Sachdev, Managing Director, S&T Mining Company Pvt. Ltd. (a SAIL Tata Steel JV); Ms Nandini Chakravarty, Managing Director, Mine Line Pvt. Ltd and Mr Pankaj Kumar Sinha, Managing Director, DMT Consulting India Pvt. Ltd.

An evening networking reception was also organised between the Australian delegates, the Australian Government representatives and various stakeholders from the Indian mining industry, including advisories, geo-mining consultancies, agents & distributors / partners.

A workshop on Innovation will be held in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology – Indian School of Mines (IIT-ISM).  It will provide an overview of joint research possibilities, insights on the understanding of R&D in geo-mining in India and explore opportunities for collaboration with Australia.
