ATTA launches crackdown on unverified two-wheeler taxi drivers

The Aizawl Two-Wheeler Taxi Association (ATTA) has launched a city-wide crackdown on non-local and foreign drivers operating without valid identification, in a bid to ensure public safety and legal compliance. ATTA officials said the move comes after they discovered that several such drivers were running two-wheeler taxis without proper identity documents like Aadhaar cards or Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC). The Association raised concerns about the security risks and the legality of such operations.

To tackle the issue, the Association has appealed to the public to report any instances of unverified taxi operators. It also urged all two-wheeler taxi owners to employ only verified residents of Mizoram to maintain order and protect passengers.“The inspection drive will continue until all unauthorized drivers are removed,” ATTA said, reiterating its commitment to safeguard both riders and genuine taxi operators in the city.

The initiative has received support from local commuters, many of whom welcomed the effort to make Aizawl’s public transport system safer and more regulated.
