ATL road reopens as Mizoram govt approves additional funds

The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Lunglei Headquarters, has officially called off its blockade of the Aizawl–Thenzawl–Lunglei (ATL) road following the Mizoram government’s approval of an additional ₹58.99 crore for the ongoing road project.

The student body, backed by local organizations, launched the blockade on April 29 at key entry points including Pukpui, Zobawk, and Hrangchalkawn, alleging mismanagement of earlier sanctioned funds. The initial project fund stood at ₹90.69 crore, of which ₹44.89 crore was reportedly unaccounted for, prompting the protest. With the latest sanction, the total fund now stands at ₹103.88 crore.

MZP Lunglei President Johan Hmangaihzuala expressed gratitude to the public for their support during the agitation and apologized for the inconvenience caused. He acknowledged that the protest successfully pressured the authorities into acting. During the blockade, MZP had displayed the Chief Minister’s mobile number at checkpoints, allowing people to obtain passes for emergency travel, reflecting the group’s intention to minimize public hardship.
