The man who entered the field had a rainbow flag in his hand. Which symbolizes all kinds of love. which is not legally recognized in Qatar. Also, the shirt the man was wearing read, “In honor of the girls of Iran.” This is not the first time, there have been various protests in the World Cup in Qatar. It was the Iranian footballers who protested by not singing the national anthem in the first match. Iran did not have a match on Monday though.
The person who entered the field was immediately barred by the security guards. “Save Ukraine” was written on the front of the man’s shirt. The person protested about three things at once. She protested Qatar’s lack of recognition of all forms of love by holding a rainbow flag, as well as standing by Iran’s women’s anti-hijab movement and protesting Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
Such controversy continues throughout the World Cup in Qatar. Qatar enforces its own country’s rules on spectator dress, behavior, and drinking. Be it girls wearing skimpy clothes or kissing in public, nothing is legal in Qatar. Just before the start of the World Cup, the sale of beer on the side of the field suddenly stopped. There is also a ban on drinking beer while watching the game. Belgian footballer Thibaut Courtois was also controversial for kissing his girlfriend on the field. Added to all this was the man’s entry into the field. In that match, Portugal beat Uruguay 2-0. Ronaldo reached the pre-quarterfinals.
