Assam Rifles seize ₹39 lakh heroin in Mizoram

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Excise and Narcotics Department, seized heroin worth ₹39.13 lakh in Champhai district, Mizoram. One individual was arrested during the operation, officials confirmed.

Acting on intelligence inputs, security personnel intercepted a suspect at the Zote crossing point on March 30. A thorough search led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of heroin, following which the suspect was immediately taken into custody.

Authorities have handed over the seized contraband and the accused to the Excise and Narcotics Department for further investigation. Officials stated that this successful operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling in Mizoram, a known transit hub for illegal narcotics.

Meanwhile, in neighbouring Manipur, security forces conducted a series of counter-insurgency operations between March 26 and March 29, targeting illegal arms and ammunition. Joint teams of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and ITBP carried out raids across Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Senapati, Jiribam, and Bishnupur districts.

During these operations, 29 weapons, including AK-series rifles, carbines, grenades, and other war-like materials, were seized. One significant raid in Kangpokpi district on March 26 led to the recovery of two AK-series rifles, one carbine, a 7.62 mm self-loading rifle, ammunition, and other military-grade supplies.
