Assam Rifles Chief visits Kohima, stresses strong ties with local communities

The Director General of the Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, visited the Headquarters of Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) in Kohima on March 6 and reviewed the operational preparedness of troops as well as welfare measures for personnel deployed in the region.During the visit, the Director General was briefed by senior officers about the current security situation in the area and the level of operational readiness maintained by the force. Officials also informed him about various initiatives being carried out to improve the welfare and living conditions of the troops posted in different locations. Lakhera interacted with officers and soldiers of different ranks and appreciated their work in maintaining peace and stability in the region. He praised the personnel for their discipline and commitment while serving in challenging conditions.

Speaking during the visit, the Director General underlined the importance of cooperation between security forces and local communities. He said that such cooperation plays an important role in maintaining long-term peace and supporting development in the region. He also appreciated the various civic action programmes being carried out to strengthen trust and goodwill between the Assam Rifles and the local population.As part of the visit, Lakhera inaugurated a new sports complex at the Kohima Garrison. The facility has been developed for the use of troops of all ranks. Officials said the complex will encourage soldiers to take part in sports and maintain a healthy lifestyle while also promoting discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.The Director General also inaugurated a newly constructed Sainik Institute and a modern cook house in the Dimapur sector of the Assam Rifles. The Sainik Institute has been created as a place where soldiers can spend their off-duty time in a comfortable environment. It offers space for relaxation, social interaction and meals.

The modern cook house has been equipped with improved kitchen facilities and better storage arrangements. Officials said the upgraded infrastructure will help ensure better hygiene, efficiency and improved working conditions for the personnel involved in preparing food for the troops. During his interaction with the soldiers, Lakhera praised the efforts of the formation in maintaining good administrative standards and welfare arrangements. He said that proper infrastructure and strong logistical support are important for maintaining the morale and readiness of soldiers working in difficult environments.
