Assam initiate 24/7 power supply in urban and rural areas

According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam’s power scenario has improved dramatically in recent years as a result of ongoing investments in the power sector. This breakthrough has resulted in more efficiently managed supply gaps and higher average power availability. According to Chief Minister Sarma, rural areas in Assam now have over 22 hours of electricity each day, while urban areas have more over 23 hours.

These enhancements demonstrate the state’s dedication to improving its power infrastructure and providing reliable electricity to its inhabitants. Earlier in September, the Assam government, through APDCL, addressed and corrected common fallacies regarding smart meters, highlighting their enormous benefits for customers. In a statement, the administration stated that smart prepayment meters provide various advantages.

This includes improved energy conservation and cost efficiency. Contrary to popular assumption, smart meters do not increase electricity prices. In fact, consumers reported a 50% decrease in consumption compared to previous postpaid periods. The method offers fast recharging, emergency credit of ₹300, and the option to pay past debts in tiny daily installments.
