Assam govt declares ‘garden holiday’ on Karam Puja

The Assam government on Tuesday declared a ‘garden’ holiday in the state’s tea gardens to mark the Karam Puja of the tea tribes and tribals.

The state government, in its order, said the holiday would apply only to tea plantations in the state.

According to the instructions,  the garden workers will work on any other holiday or weekly day of rest, which will be decided by the respective tea garden management.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma greeted the people of the tea tribe and tribal communities of the state on the occasion of the festival.
