Assam CM announces Rs 10 lakh ex gratia for Umrangso coal mine victims           

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced that an ex gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh will be given to the next of kin of the four deceased people recovered from coal mine in Umrangso. Sarma also announced that the the next of the kins of the other five people who are yet to be found will also be proved a Rs 10 lakh compensation whether found alive or dead.

It was also announced that an SIT will be constituted to enquire into the entire incident on the basis of the FIR already registered on the matter. The SIT will be monitored by retired Justice Anima Hazarika. It may be recalled that on January 6, several workers got trapped in the coal mine located in Umrangso, Dima Hasao after the mine shafts were flooded with water. Since then rescue operations have been going on and till now four bodies have been recovered.
