Arunachal’s Roing to Host 22nd National MTB Championship, Marking a First

The town of Roing in Arunachal Pradesh is preparing to host the 22nd National Mountain Terrain Biking (MTB) Championship from February 12 to 15, marking the state’s first time as the host. Over 450 cyclists across various age groups are registered for the event, which features 23 competitions, including relay races. The course, designed to challenge even experienced riders, includes a 1.9-km downhill track and a 3.8-km mountainous stretch. Organizers have arranged necessary accommodations and support from local and state authorities, anticipating the event will boost tourism. Concurrently, in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills, the death toll from an illegal coal mine explosion has risen to 30, with ongoing arrests of mine owners and enforcement actions against illegal mining. Authorities are also disbursing compensation to victims’ families and considering enhanced surveillance methods to prevent such activities.
