Arunachal Pradesh’s flood situation remained dire on Wednesday, according to officials, as the state’s 23 districts saw over 3,000 people affected by new landslides and flooding brought on by the unrelenting rain. Searches are being conducted for two missing persons, and at least 12 people have died as a result of landslides and floods brought on by monsoon rain this year, according to a report from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). According to the report, there have been new landslides in the districts of Dibang Valley and Anjaw as well as along the Likabali-Aalo route near Magi and Siji, which connects Lower Siang and West Siang district. These landslides have disrupted traffic, and the state’s major rivers are overflowing.
Seven deaths from East Kameng, two from Lower Subansiri, and one each from Longding, Lohit, and Anjaw districts were attributed to landslides and flood-related incidents. According to officials, nine of the dead died as a result of landslides, one died in a flood-related incident, another died as a result of a wall collapse, and one died in May in Longding district when a tree fell on him during bad weather. Over 3,000 people have been affected by the deluge and landslides across Arunachal Pradesh, another official said.
Arunachal Pradesh has experienced a severe monsoon, causing 212 house damage and 425 livestock deaths across the state. Floods and landslides damaged farmland, horticulture plantations, and infrastructure in Lower Subansiri. Authorities have opened three relief camps, providing shelter to 239 displaced people. A total of 2,249 people have been evacuated, with 2,231 from Changlang alone. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has called for early warning systems and real-time flood and landslide sensors to ensure safety and well-being.
