Arunachal’s carbon neutrality strategy aims to achieve long-term environmental goals

Samuel Changkija, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests for Arunachal Pradesh, emphasized the necessity of a well-organized plan and a strong carbon credit trading system in order to accomplish long-term environmental objectives. On March 25, he spoke at a carbon neutrality awareness campaign hosted in Itanagar by the Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Limited (HPDCAPL). Raising awareness, encouraging sustainable behaviors, and investigating the state’s potential in the carbon market were the main objectives of the event.

The event’s resource person, Kishan Prajapati, Associate Director of Creduce Technologies, gave a thorough explanation of carbon credits, voluntary and compliance carbon markets, and India’s regulatory environment. He positioned Arunachal Pradesh as a source of green jobs and income by highlighting the state’s enormous potential in the carbon market.

Toko Onuj, the chairman and managing director of HPDCAPL, emphasized the pressing need to cut greenhouse gas emissions and restated India’s commitment to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2070. He also described HPDCAPL’s function as Arunachal Pradesh’s carbon development unit, leading efforts for sustainable growth. In his speech, Varaprasad K, the Assistant General Manager (AGM) of NABARD, discussed climate resilience, the bank’s Climate Change Fund (CCF), and the shared responsibility of financial institutions in promoting carbon neutrality.
