According to data from the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the first tremor, which had a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale, occurred 37 kilometers below the surface in the Imphal East district of Manipur and the surrounding territories.
The Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh and the surrounding territories were struck by a second earthquake of magnitude 3.6, which struck five kilometers below the surface. On June 2, tremors also shook the two northeastern states. On June 2, earthquakes with magnitudes of 3.3 and 3.5 on the Richter scale struck the districts of Lepa Rada in Arunachal Pradesh and Churachandpur in Manipur. Three consecutive earthquakes, the strongest being 5.2 magnitude, struck Manipur’s Churachandpur and Noney districts in nine hours. No reports of loss of life or property damage were reported. The Northeastern States (NCS) recorded 20 quakes in May, with most measuring 3 to 4 on the Richter scale. Earthquakes are common in the mountainous northeastern region, which is the sixth most earthquake-prone region in the world.
