The introduction of a common examination method for direct recruitment to the state government’s assistant engineer and junior engineer positions was approved by the Arunachal Pradesh cabinet on Monday. The common exam syllabus will be finalized by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) after consulting with the relevant departments. This action would speed up the hiring process, the cabinet said. A “one-time relaxation” of the maximum age limit for direct recruitment was also agreed by the cabinet, which was chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
Subject to certain restrictions, this will allow applicants to apply for positions for which the APPSC has canceled or plans to cancel prior vacancy announcements (issued before to 2024). According to a statement released by the chief minister’s office (CMO), the cabinet also approved the notification of the Arunachal Pradesh Police Service (4th Amendment) Rules, 2025, which replaces the APPS Rules of 1989. The goal of the modification is to simplify the state police’s rank system, promotions, and cadre administration.
By designating all positions from entry grade to special grade as Group “A” gazetted posts, it establishes a single cadre for civil police, IRBn, and AAPBn officers. In a further significant move, the cabinet authorized the creation of 280 new positions in the public health engineering and water supply department in a variety of categories. This would fulfill the ambitions of long-serving employees, create opportunities for new hires, and improve departmental efficiency. A presentation on the memorandum to be submitted to the 16th Finance Commission was also given by the departments of finance, planning, and investment. Following discussion, the plan was approved by the cabinet.
