Anti-Corruption, two Assam government employees held

Assam Police CPRO Rajeev Saikia said that a complaint was received in the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Gopinath Das, additional writer, o/o sub-registrar, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Tamulpur sought a bribe from the complainant. The complainant approached the Directorate to take legal action against the above-mentioned government servant for issuing marriage certificates and refusing to pay bribes related to a couple.

On the other hand, a team of Assam’s Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested Lohit Phukan, Dealing Assistant, Inspector Office, Excise, Bokhakhat. The department received a complaint that Lohit Phukon demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant to convert his bar license from ‘on’ to ‘off’ shop. According to the report, he was caught red-handed soon after accepting a bribe of Rs 4000 from the complainant.

From the possession of Lohit Phukan the tainted bribe money was seized, in presence of independent witnesses.
