Amazon starts laying off employees in music streaming unit

Amazon.com Inc. is cutting jobs at its music division, which includes the retail giant’s audio streaming platform and digital storefront for music, as Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy continues to cut costs across the company.
The targeted jobs are in Amazon Music’s editorial and audio content teams, said people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named because the details are private. It’s unclear how many locations were damaged.

“Like many businesses, we are closely monitoring our organizational needs and prioritizing what matters most to customers and the long-term health of our business,” an Amazon spokesperson said. “As a result, some roles have been eliminated on the Amazon Music team. We will continue to invest in Amazon Music and devote our resources to the products and services that matter most to consumers, creators and artists.”
