Amazon becomes the first e-commerce company deliver orders at 4,500 feet above sea level

Maharishi Ashram in Gajoli, India, is a serene sanctuary for around 60 meditation practitioners, located at 4500 feet above sea level. Despite its isolation, the ashram offers a peaceful environment for practitioners to practice meditation and find inner peace. Accessing daily essentials is challenging due to the distance, as it requires a 30-40-minute trek to Gajoli village and then local public transport to Uttarkashi town.

Despite this, the ashram provides a serene environment for meditation seekers worldwide. In 2020, Amazon.in became the first e-commerce company to deliver to Maharishi Ashram in Gajoli village, transforming the journey from a difficult and time-consuming journey to a convenient destination. This enabled practitioners to order items from anywhere in India and have them delivered to their doorsteps.

Amazon established a Delivery Service Partner station in Uttarkashi, India, in March 2019. It began delivering to Maharishi Ashram in Gajoli in 2020, demonstrating its customer obsession in India. The journey involves an unusual mountain path, challenging delivery associates during winter and monsoon seasons. Amazon’s partnership with Rahul Kesar, Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner, also marks a significant milestone in Amazon’s commitment to supporting small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) to deliver packages to Amazon.in customers. Dr. Karuna Shankar Pande, Director, Amazon Logistics, Amazon India said, “In our relentless pursuit of customer obsession, we have built a strong operations network in India.”
