Alliance Likely as TIPRA Motha, BJP Eye TTAADC Polls Together

Tipra Motha Party (TMP) and the BJP are ‘’likely’ to contest the elections to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) jointly, ironing out their ongoing differences. The elections to 28 seats of TTAADC are scheduled to take place on April 13 and counting will be held on April 17. Although there has been no official statement from either the TMP or BJP, yet ahead of tribal council’s elections, it is almost certain that the Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s party will contest in 18-20 seats and the BJP will field candidates in 10-8 seats in the upcoming elections. Over the past few days, Chief Minister Manik Saha and Tipra Motha supremo Debbarma have been attacking each other on different issues. Sources informed that the TMP chief, who is currently in Delhi, is expected to return on Wednesday or Thursday. A formal announcement on the deal is likely to be announced shortly. In the 2021 elections, the TMP fought alone and won the elections while the BJP which contested the election with its old ally- IPFT, conceded defeat by securing nine seats. It has been learnt that a former Chief Minister has reportedly played a key role in securing the deal, which if finally executed ahead of the tribal council’s elections, will be a masterstroke by Delhi to defuse the tension between two parties in Tripura.
