Aizawl to hold major civil defence drill on May 7

In line with a nationwide emergency preparedness initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Aizawl will conduct a major civil defence mock drill on May 7 to enhance disaster response capabilities among citizens and institutions. The drill is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am, covering the area between Civil Hospital Aizawl and the All India Radio Station in Tuikhuahtlang. A warning siren from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office will signal the start of a simulated air raid scenario.

In a special evening session, authorities will sound a second siren at 6:30 pm, after which the entire city will observe a five-minute blackout, replicating conditions during an aerial emergency. As part of the awareness campaign, 15 high schools in Aizawl have been selected to participate in an educational programme on civil defence measures, aiming to instill basic emergency response skills in students.

Officials have called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with the drill, stressing its importance in ensuring readiness during real-life crises. Authorities assured that all safety measures will be in place throughout the exercise.
