The Lemchan–Mizoram Film Festival 2026 commenced on Monday at the I&PR Office, Treasury Square, Aizawl, organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, NFDC, and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations. The inaugural ceremony featured Mizoram’s Information Minister, B. Lalchhanzova, as the chief guest, who highlighted the festival as Mizoram’s first major film event. He emphasized the local creative talent and the festival’s role in enabling Mizo filmmakers to present their stories to broader audiences while fostering collaboration among creatives. The minister noted cinema’s importance in entertainment, education, and job creation for youth, expressing hope for the festival’s beneficial impact on Mizoram’s film industry. IPR&P Secretary Betsy Zothanpari Sailo welcomed attendees and acknowledged the efforts behind organizing the festival, while Bollywood veteran Lillete Dubey discussed cinema’s unifying influence across cultures. Gouri Nair from the NFDC envisioned the festival’s potential to catalyze film industry development in both Mizoram and the Northeast region. The festival runs from March 16 to 18, 2026, featuring educational sessions, film screenings from various states, and contributions from industry professionals nationwide.
