AI-enabled surveillance cameras will improve public safety in Arunachal

According to Home Minister Mama Natung, the Arunachal Pradesh government has made plans to gradually install AI-enabled cameras throughout all towns and cities as a major step to improve public safety. The goal of this project is to strengthen security and law enforcement across the state. In order to monitor and regulate the flow of undesired individuals and illegal objects, the government has already started installing AI-based CCTV cameras in 22 checkgates along the Assam and Nagaland interstate borders.

In addition to improving surveillance, the state budget also includes funding for the construction of a state-of-the-art forensic center at the Police Training Center in Banderdewa and for the improvement of facilities at the headquarters of the second armed police battalion in Aalo. Natung outlined the government’s integrated strategy to address the pressing issue of drug addiction under the Mukhya Mantri Nasha Mukti Yojana, which includes the opening of five de-addiction facilities and a planned rehabilitation facility in the Itanagar Capital Region.

The state Cabinet has authorized the establishment of 3,000 additional police positions in order to alleviate the shortfall of personnel, especially in the eastern areas. Additionally, a plan to improve police capacities in areas hit by insurgencies has been presented to the Union Home Minister. To enhance officers’ general working conditions, the government is also thinking of directly funding police clothing.
