The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed the statutory inspection for electrification of the Agartala-Sabroom section, marking a significant milestone towards modernizing railway infrastructure in the Northeast. The inspection, conducted under the supervision of Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE) Sandeep Kumar, is a mandatory step before launching full-scale commercial operations under 25 KV electric traction.
NFR had previously conducted a successful trial run of an electric train from Dharmanagar to Agartala on February 8. The electrification project aims to improve operational efficiency, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and minimize environmental impact. NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated that transitioning to electric traction will lower carbon emissions, enhance travel speed and reliability, and contribute to the region’s economic growth by improving freight and passenger services.
However, electrification between Maibong and Chandranathpur (107 km) remains incomplete, delaying the launch of electric train services between Agartala and Guwahati. The pending work is expected to be completed within three to four months, though the approaching monsoon may impact progress.
