Frustrated residents of Vivekananda Abasan, Agartala, staged a protest on VIP Road on Monday, blocking traffic to demand an end to their five-year-long drinking water crisis. The demonstrators expressed anger over the lack of action despite multiple complaints to the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and local BJP Corporator Lata Nath.
The locals, affected by water shortages, have been forced to rely on hand pumps, carrying water up several floors daily. “Despite raising this issue with authorities, no permanent solution has been provided,” one resident stated.
The protest caused significant traffic disruptions until officials, including the AMC Deputy Commissioner, intervened and assured residents of prompt action. Sixteen families in Khejur Bagan have been directly impacted by the shortage.
