Accessibility Push: Sign Language Training Workshop Organized

The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal Affairs (SJETA) of Arunachal Pradesh organized a three-day Sign Language Training Workshop aimed at enhancing accessibility and inclusive communication for individuals with hearing and speech impairments. Collaborating with the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE) under India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the workshop targeted government officials, teachers, parents, and children affected by these disabilities.

Kento Jini, the Minister for Law and Justice, Sports and Youth Affairs, emphasized the significance of sign language in overcoming communication barriers and underscored the need for trained professionals to support the growing demand for sign language skills in the state. The objectives of the workshop included equipping participants with effective communication abilities, providing certification opportunities, and developing a cadre of qualified sign language interpreters.

Interactive training sessions aimed at fostering practical understanding of basic sign language and awareness of the challenges faced by the hearing and speech impaired community were a key focus. This initiative represents a vital step in promoting inclusivity and reducing communication barriers, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life for individuals in Arunachal Pradesh.
