Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was once suspended from the House on Wednesday for the final phase of the week for his “unruly behavior”, a day after 19 MPs of opposition parties had been suspended from the House for allegedly disrupting proceedings.
The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed a motion to remove Singh. “UP MP Sanjay Singh has been suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the latter part of this week for shouting slogans, tearing papers and throwing chairs,” said Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh.
Singh raised the issue of deaths due to the consumption of spurious liquor in the state of Gujarat in Parliament.
A complete of 19 MPs from opposition parties, such as seven from the TMC, and six from the DMK, without these from the TRS, CPI-M and CPI, were suspended for their “unruly behavior” in the House.
Soon after the House met for a question-and-answer session at 12 noon, Deputy Chairman Harivansh introduced Rule 256 and named Singh for tearing papers and throwing them on the chair on Tuesday. The deputy chairman said that Singh’s move was a complete brush with regulations and the chair’s authority. Subsequently, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muralitharan moved a motion to exclude Singh from the House for the rest of the week. Once the motion was carried on a voice vote, even the opposition members persisted in causing the House to rumble nicely.
The deputy chairman asked Singh to leave the House soon after the action was once adopted.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha has been adjourned until two pm.
