AAI conducts feasibility inspection for revival of Kailashahar Airport

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has conducted a feasibility inspection of the defunct Kailashahar airport in Tripura’s Unakoti district, ahead of a potential revival, confirmed Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday. Speaking to India Today NE, Chowdhury said the inspection was a key step in the long-pending demand to resume operations from the airport. “The present state government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been committed to enhancing Tripura’s communication infrastructure,” he said.

The minister emphasized that significant improvements have already been made in roadways, highways, and airways. “I have persistently advocated for the revival of Kailashahar airport. Letters have been sent and meetings held with successive Union Civil Aviation Ministers to press this demand,” he added.

Chowdhury also mentioned that Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has taken up the matter with the Centre and that discussions have been held in the State Assembly, often prompted by opposition parties. He expressed optimism that the Central government would take timely action following the inspection, boosting regional connectivity in the state.
