A new Aadhaar Seva Kendra is being established in Aizawl, Mizoram, to enhance the enrolment process, with operations expected to start by March 31, 2026. The announcement was made during a State-Level Unique Identification Implementation Committee (UIDIC) meeting, headed by Mizoram Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena. During the meeting, Ngachan Zimik, Deputy Director General (DDG) of the UIDAI Regional Office in Guwahati, provided an update on the Aadhaar enrolment progress in the state, noting an encouraging upward trend.
Key issues were identified, including the need to expedite Aadhaar enrolment for children aged 0-5 years through Birth Registration Based Aadhaar Enrolment (BRBAE) at respective district hospitals and health facilities, utilizing Birth Registration Numbers (BRN). The Chief Secretary instructed the Department of Health to optimize the usage of enrolment kits for this purpose.
Zimik also highlighted the need to focus on improving enrolment rates in low-saturation districts such as Hnahthial, Lawngtlai, Khawzawl, and Serchhip. He called for the implementation of Mission Mode Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) camps in schools, prompting the Chief Secretary to direct the Department of School Education to enhance these MBU camps, with potential assistance from the General Administration Department (GAD).
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chief Secretary stressed the necessity of coordinated efforts between all departments and the UIDAI Regional Office to ensure the achievement of enrolment goals within a defined timeframe.
