A Myanmar native captured by security agents in significant anti-drug operation with illegal heroin

In a major anti-narcotics operation, security forces apprehended a Myanmar national near the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram’s Champhai district and seized heroin worth ₹1.77 crore, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The joint operation was carried out by the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police based on specific intelligence inputs. The accused was intercepted while attempting to cross the Tiau River, which marks the international boundary between India and Myanmar. During the search, officials recovered 237 grams of heroin from the individual. The seized narcotics have been handed over to the state police for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.

Assam Rifles officials stated that border surveillance has been intensified in view of rising cross-border smuggling attempts. They reiterated their commitment to curbing the drug menace in the region through coordinated efforts. Champhai district, which shares a porous border with Myanmar, has long been a hotspot for illegal drug trafficking. Authorities have urged locals to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help maintain security in the area.
