In a compelling story of medical courage and collaborative care, a 57-year-old patient from Nagaland has successfully recovered after undergoing complex open-heart surgery and advanced post-operative management at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad. Mr. Akuminba, a resident of Nagaland, was suffering from a host of life-threatening health issues, including Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, chronic hypertension, and severe renal dysfunction requiring dialysis.
He had previously experienced acute pulmonary edema and had been diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), for which a failed angioplasty attempt had already been made elsewhere. With his condition worsening and heart function severely compromised, he was referred to Amrita Hospital in a critical state. The patient had multi-vessel coronary artery disease and a severely reduced Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction (LVEF) of just 30–35%, indicating advanced heart failure.
He had sequels of long term Diabetes which had resulted in blindness in one eye due to retinopathy. “We performed a successful Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) using three grafts and monitored him closely through a multi-specialty approach. His recovery is truly a result of clinical precision and patient resilience.” said, Dr. Sameer Bhate. Dr Sameer Bhate lead a team comprising of cardiac Anaesthetists Drs Dheeraj Arora , Ishrat Rawoot, Shweta Panse and Prabhat Chaudhary and Perfusionists Ravi Deshpande. Mr. Akuminba: “I arrived at Amrita Hospital in fear, with very little hope. But the doctors here gave me a second chance. From the ICU to the rehab team, every person gave me the strength to fight. I am grateful beyond words.”
