5 kids in Rajasthan suffocate to death while playing in container, 3 others die as soil caves in

Five children suffocated to death after they fell inside a grain storage in Bikaner’s Himmarshee village on Sunday.
Five children, including four girls and one boy fell into an iron-made grain storage bin while playing. All the children were trapped in it and suffocated to death.
“While playing, all the children locked themselves in the grain bin made of iron, kept in the house and could never come out of it. When the incident happened, no one was present at home for timely rescue,” said the area Circle Officer (CO) Pawan Bhadauriya in a statement.
The police said that Bheeyaram and his wife returned home after working from the fields around 2.30 pm. The mother of the children then started looking for the kids but could not find them. Finally, around 4 pm she found four of her children and one niece in the grain bin.

According to police, the container was almost empty and the children jumped into it one after another while playing. The container got closed accidentally, trapping the kids inside.

Sevaram (4), Ravina (7), Radha (5), Poonam (8) and Mali were rushed to a government hospital where doctors declared them brought dead, SP (Bikaner) Priti Chandra said.

In the other incident, three children were killed and one injured when a heap of soil caved in on them while they were playing in Jhunjhunu district Saturday evening.

They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared three of them dead on arrival, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Prince and Suresh, both 7-year-old, and Sona (10), police said. The injured boy is under treatment, they said.

The bodies were handed over to family members after post-mortem. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condoled the deaths of the children.

He said the deaths were heart-wrenching, and prayed for the departed soul and wished speedy recovery of the injured.
