33 Hydropower Projects Under Development in Arunachal Pradesh with 19,165 MW Capacity

As many as 33 hydropower projects are currently under development in Arunachal Pradesh, with a total projected capacity of 19,165 MW, according to data from the state’s hydropower department. During the recent budget session of the state Assembly, MLA Wanglin Lowangdong inquired about the status of these projects. To date, five hydropower projects have successfully been commissioned, which include the Dikshi Hydropower Project (24 MW), Kameng Hydroelectric Project (600 MW), Khangtang Hydropower Project (7 MW), Lower Panyor Hydroelectric Project (405 MW), and Pare Hydroelectric Project (110 MW).

Among the companies involved, the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) is leading with 11 projects, with three already operational. Following NEEPCO, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam has five projects, and NHPC Limited is working on three. The largest hydropower project in the state, once completed, will be the Dibang Multipurpose Project, featuring a capacity of 2,880 MW.

Additionally, the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, located along the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border in Kamle district, is currently in an advanced execution phase. This project has a total installed capacity of 2,000 MW, comprising eight 250 MW units. Notably, two units, generating a combined capacity of 500 MW, were commissioned in December 2025 and February 2026, respectively. The trial run for the third unit was successfully completed on February 28, and the remaining units are expected to be commissioned in phases by December 2026.
