On the 34th Anniversary function of down town hospital held at down town hospital Auditorium on 15th of February 2023 at 10 am, Dr. Kuladhar Saikia, Former President of Asom Sahitya Sabha blessed the occasion as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the 34th down town Newsletter with Ms. Gariasi Dutta, Director of down town hospital and Dr. Manabendra Nayak, Deputy Medical Superintendant and Senior Consultant – Department of Medicine of down town hospital. Dr. Kuladhar Saikia congratulated Dr. N.N. Dutta for providing 34 years of untiring services rendered to the people of North East Region. He also thanked Dr. N.N. Dutta and down town hospital for their noble initiative in organizing the much needed Public Oration for the people of our region from the last 30 years. He emphasised that every profession should have compassion, love and empathy towards every individual. Shri Anis Uz Zaman, Renowned Poet and Kabyaratna Award Winner graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour and released a Book “Anupam Jibonor Anubhav” written by Mr. Biswa Dutta, Director of down town hospital. The book comprises of his vast experiences in different phases of his life.
Shri Anis Uz Zaman congratulated Mr. Biswa Dutta and encourage the audience on taking initiative on writing skills. CA. (Dr.) Debashis Mitra, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), as well as chairman ICAI Research wing, ICAI Accounting Research Foundation, and XBRL India, who is also the Financial Consultant of down town hospital has also graced the occasion as the Special Guest. He is also on the board of the Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI and represents ICAI on key Indian government and regulatory committees.Prizes of various competitions were given away by the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special Guest on the event. Meritorious awards for the wards of our staff and doctors have also given on the occasion. From the last 30 years, down town hospital organizes a Public Oration Programme to bring awareness among the general public on a common medical topic. Eminent personality from different medical field delivers the lecture to encourage the public for maintaining a healthy life.The oration started with the welcome address by Ms. Gariasi Dutta, Director of down town hospital. On her speech she welcomed the guests and expressed her gratitude to the Orator and the Awardees.Dr. Manabendra Nayak, Deputy Medical Superintendant and Senior Consultant – Department of Medicine of down town hospital has briefed about organizing the Public Oration of down town hospital since 1993 and also introduced the Orator Dr. Premashish Kar, Senior Director and HOD, Department of Gastroenterology, Max Healthcare, New Delhi.The 31st Public Oration was delivered by Dr. Premashish Kar, Senior Director and HOD, Department of Gastroenterology, Max Healthcare, New Delhi on Viral Hepatitis – Myths & Facts.In order to uplift the spirit of the doctors and to encourage them to continue their dedicated services to the community, the hospital has instituted an Annual “Award of Excellence in Medicine” since 2000, for the doctors of North East Region for setting exemplary service within and outside the state.This year down town “Award for Excellence in Medicine – 2023” was conferred upon Dr. Hem Chandra Kalita, Professor & HOD- Department of Cardiology, AMCH. The award carried a citation, a Gold medal, a memento and a cheque of Rupees One Lakh.
Further in memory of Prof. Jogesh Mahanta & Prof. Pratul Goswami for their immense contribution in the upliftment of the hospital, two Awards have been instituted to honour distinguished doctors who have worked profoundly for the growth of the society in health care sector. For 2023, Prof. Jogesh Mahanta Memorial Award has been conferred upon Dr. Arnab Borua, Consultant- Department of General Surgery, down town hospital and Prof. Pratul Goswami Memorial Award to Dr. Jina Bhattacharyya, Professor & HOD- Department of Clinical Haematology, GMCH. These awards carried a citation and a memento. Ms. Fiona Goswami, daughter of Late Prof. Pratul Goswami has presented a cheque of Rs. 10,000/- to the awardee of the Prof. Pratul Goswami Memorial Award. The awards were given by Dr. N.N. Dutta, Chairman & Managing Director, down town hospital, Dr. B.K. Gogoi, Medical Director, Prof. Bandana Dutta, Whole Time Director, Dr. Udayan Barua, Medical Superintendant, Ms. Mayurakshi Dutta, Executive Director, Ms. Gariasi Dutta, Director and Mr. Joutishman Dutta, Director of down town hospital.The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Swapnav Borthakur, Deputy Medical Superintendant and Consultant – Department of Medicine of down town hospital where he thanked all the dignitaries and all the members of august audience.
