Security forces have killed 26 foreign terrorists linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed outfits in Jammu and Kashmir in the first five months of the year, a senior police officer said on Thursday.
“So far, 26 foreign terrorists have been neutralized this year,” Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar said, after three Lashkar terrorists were killed after security forces foiled an infiltration attempt in Kupwara district on Thursday.
Kumar said 14 of the slain foreign terrorists belonged to Jaish, founded by Masood Azhar, while 12 were associated with LeT, founded by Hafiz Mohammad Saeed.
Earlier this month, a senior army officer said that foreign terrorists were forced to come out of their hideouts to carry out operations in Kashmir as the number of local ultras in the Valley was dwindling.
