22 kg ganja seized at Agartala Railway station, 2 women arrested

In a joint crackdown, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended two women from Bihar at Agartala Railway Station on Tuesday morning for allegedly smuggling over 22 kg of cannabis.

The suspects, identified as Manju Devi (45) from Lakshmisharai and Rachana Devi (36) from Bhagalpur, were intercepted while preparing to board a train to Punjab. Acting on a tip-off, officials conducted a thorough search and recovered 22.405 kg of dry ganja hidden in six packets inside pit bags and a trolley bag.

According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of GRP Agartala, preliminary investigation suggests that the women are part of a recurring smuggling route using the railway network. “The seized contraband could fetch around ₹4.5 lakh in the black market in Punjab,” he said.
