17 Mountain Division’s Historic Contributions Recalled On Raising Day By Arunachal Governor

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik on Sunday reflected on the distinguished legacy of the Indian Army’s 17 Mountain Division, describing it as the protector of the Northeast and a vital shield for the Siliguri Corridor. He called upon officers and soldiers to adopt modern technology and innovative approaches to tackle emerging security challenges. The governor was speaking at a sainik sammelan held at the Army Cantonment in Gangtok to mark the 65th Raising Day of the Division. Highlighting the changing security landscape, especially in the post–Operation Sindoor scenario, Parnaik underscored the importance of artificial intelligence, drones, advanced surveillance systems, cyber capabilities, and other emerging technologies for future operations. He stressed the need for agility, innovation, continuous learning, and effective perception management. The governor also urged the Division to further strengthen people-oriented initiatives such as Operation Sadbhavana and military-civil cooperation to win the trust of local communities while safeguarding strategically important areas. Commending the 17 Mountain Division for its rich heritage, professionalism, and steadfast commitment, Parnaik paid tribute to its historic contributions—from its role in the World Wars and the liberation of Goa to its key involvement in the merger of Sikkim with the Union of India.
