A 12-year-old boy, Rohit Bahadur Chetry, was found dead on Wednesday morning in the dense jungles of Kalikhola, Arunachal Pradesh. Rohit, a resident of Sadiya, had been reported missing after being abducted by unidentified miscreants last week. The abduction occurred on July 22 while Rohit was returning home from school near the Sunpura locality. The kidnappers initially demanded Rs 25 lakh from his father, Noor Bahadur Chetry, for his release.
The ransom was later lowered to Rs 2-3 lakhs, but the abductors threatened to kill Rohit if the money was not paid or if the police were notified. Unable to raise the ransom, Rohit’s father sought police assistance. Despite extensive search operations and negotiation efforts, the case ended in tragedy.
Two suspects, Najuso Tamai and Gobin Tamang, both from Arunachal Pradesh, have been arrested following an FIR lodged at the Sunpura Police Station. The arrest operation, led by Tezu police in collaboration with the Sadiya Regional Gorkha Students Union, involved a thorough interrogation. The suspects confessed to the murder and revealed the location of the boy’s body.
