Ten people were killed and forty others missing after a cloudburst near the holy cave temple of Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, officials said.
A cloud burst was reported around 5:30 pm.
Tents And community kitchens along the Yatra route were damaged.
“Conditionally, the rain is still going on. Looking at the danger level, the Amarnath Yatra has been postponed for a while as the place is flooded. If the weather remains normal and temporary preparations are made, the journey can be resumed tomorrow,” said a spokesperson of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police or ITBP.
A senior official of ITBP said that the water reaches here from above and from the side of the cave when it reaches the top after nearby rains.
The injured are being airlifted for treatment.
Rescue operations are underway through national and country disaster response teams and other corporations.
A cloudburst refers to particularly heavy precipitation over a limited geographic area in a quick period of time.
